AGAPE Christian Faith Center needs your prayers and support for the island nation of Sri Lanka, the very heart of our mission field. As you know, Sri Lanka along with 10 other countries was hit by a tsunami one day after Christmas in December of 2006. This tsunami left mass destruction throughout the region, and the number of victims has risen to over 200,000. A full-time member of my staff, Elder John Coonghe, was on the ground in Sri Lanka preparing for my scheduled trip to Sri Lanka just twenty-four hours after this natural disaster occurred, and to hear first hand from John, the pictures and commentary on television do not even begin to articulate the true picture of the overwhelming devastation that took place.
Thanks to your previous donations, we’ve built three churches and to the Glory of God they were not destroyed or damaged. These three churches have become “AGAPE Relief and Refugee Centers” providing shelter, food, and water for those much in need. Thanks for going the first mile. Yes, many countries have pledged their financial support, but that does not negate us as a church body to take care of the widows and orphans, to feed the hungry, and provide shelter to the homeless. The people of Sri Lanka are very precious and dear to me. They are more than nameless people and statistics on the television; I have personally helped lead many of these victims to Christ and baptized so many of them in the very same ocean that took their lives.
